Following yesterday’s adverse weather, there is a risk of Thames Path flooding and the Environment Agency is issuing alerts in the following locations:
- Above Cricklade
- From Calcutt to Lechlade
- Buscot Wick to Kings Lock
- Shepperton to Moseley
- Hampton to Teddington
- Trowlock Island
- Teddington to Putney
The standard message for all locations is as follows:
“River levels on the tributaries of the upper Thames are rising steadily following recent rainfall. Therefore, we expect flooding of low lying roads, footpaths and land overnight (14/1/20) and tomorrow. The forecast is for further rain through this evening (14/1/20) and overnight. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please remain safe and aware of your local surroundings and refer to the ‘River and Sea levels in England’ webpage for current river levels.”
We expect further bad weather and the Met Office has the following yellow warning for the region:
“Rain, heavy at times, may bring some disruption on Tuesday and Wednesday. Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer. Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer. Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely”
The weather is disrupting rail services between Swindon and Bristol. Great Western Railways. See the following alert:
“Due to heavy rain flooding the railway between Swindon and Bristol Parkway all lines are blocked. Impact: Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 45 minutes or diverted. Disruption is expected until 10:00 15/01.”
As always, be aware of the risks of Thames Path flooding and do take care whilst walking the Thames Path.
Although not on the Environment Agency’s alert list, the Thames at Sonning (see caption above) is at a very high level. This picture was taken at lunchtime today.
