Arts and Entertainment

News of arts and entertainment events along the Thames Path.

The Thames Path is rich with culture. Many fabulous writers have lived and worked along the Thames including Jerome K Jerome, Oscar Wilde (imprisoned in Reading) , Agatha Christie, Charles Dickens, Kenneth Graham, Shelley, Chaucer. Some based their writings on the Thames resulting in classics such as Wind in the Willows and Three Men in a Boat.

In terms of music, the Thames is rich with performers who have based themselves here. From classical musicians such as Gustav Holst    to the more recent performers such as Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Deep Purple and George Michael. Experience live music with festivals along the way: Dorchester, Henley, Reading, and the world famous Proms.

Film and television sites are common place here. You will pass close by Bray and Shepperton Film studios. The Eagle Has Landed was filmed at Mapledurham. You can see the famous watermill across the river. Catch some live theatre at the Mill at Sonning, a cosy theatre where you can also enjoy dinner. Or some Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre in London. Or maybe push the boat out and try the Savoy Theatre (the first to have electric lights). And there’s always a chance to catch someone famous. Why not stop off at Ian McKellan’s pub?

And finally, the Thames is endowed with artists. Stanley Spencer and J M Turner lived along the Thames.  You will literally walk past the Tate Modern.

In these posts we will try and keep you updated on what’s happening in the world of Thames Path arts and entertainment.
