One of the joys of walking the Thames Path are the many places to visit en route. Many of these are owned by the National Trust, which was founded on 12 January 1895.
Its cause was to “preserve lands and buildings of beauty or historic interest and, as regards land, to preserve their natural aspect features and animal and plant life”. Today the National Trust manages estates and properties up and down the country.
Walkers can enjoy many National Trust places to visit on the Thames Path. These include:
- Buscot
- Prior Cottage, Abingdon,
- Basildon Park,
- Cliveden,
- Maidenhead and Cookham Commons
- Dorneywood Garden
- Runnymede
- Ham House
- Thomas Carlyle’s House in Chelsea
- 575 Wandsworth Road
- The George Inn at Southwark.
